DOS LAGOS HIGHLIGHTS
By Gil Maxey
On the first Sunday in November, a group of 17 Rainbow Golf Club members and 3 guests gathered to play golf at Dos Lagos in Corona. Only 14 players participated in the sidebets, so the pots were smaller than usual. The sky was blue, temperatures hovered in the 70s, and there was a gentle breeze, truly a nice day for a round of golf!

The course conditions proved to be quite challenging, as evidenced by the high scores recorded. No one shot better than net par, with the best score of the day being net 72, 2 over par. Out of 14 players, only 7 managed to break net 80. Additionally, the slow pace from the golfers ahead resulted in a lengthy 6½ hour round. Slow pace of play also led to some impatience among players behind us who hit into our last group, before the fairways were clear! Overseeded tee boxes pushed tee markers into the rough, with uneven ground and high grass. Cart path-only restrictions, even for those with handicap flags, unmarked ground under repair and hard pan and unraked bunkers further complicated the game. The greens had been aerated roughly two weeks ago and healing was inconsistent making reading of the greens difficult. Despite these obstacles, Tom Saito impressively managed to finish with only 33 putts, while Lance Aoyagi recorded 34, which included a frustrating 4-putt.

Turnout was small, which led to a lot of skins. 10 skins paid out only $14.00 each, and included two net aces.
A special shoutout to Donna for running the tournament, handling all the payouts and preparing delicious Musubi, and to Nancy for bringing the delightful banana nut bread and selecting Wood Ranch for our post-round meal.

Mark your calendars for our final tournament of 2024 on Sunday, December 15th, with an 8:00 am shotgun start. Format will be a Step Aside Scramble at Meadowlark Golf Course, followed by our holiday banquet at a local restaurant. Stay tuned for more details, and don't forget that Rainbow’s “Most Improved Golfer for 2024” will be honored at the banquet! Registration is now open.

Wishing John DeLuca a speedy recovery after his hip surgery! We hope the Anthurium plant from Rainbow brings a smile to your face and serves as a reminder that you are missed. Just one week post-op, he has made impressive progress, moving from a walker to a cane and now walking independently. John is eager to return to the golf course next year. A heartfelt thank you to his wife Charell for her unwavering support.
